Proposition A

Proposition A will be on the ballot in St. Louis County on April 6. This is basically the same proposition we rejected in November of 2008. It would impose a county-wide sales tax of half a cent to help fund Metro Transit. If it doesn't pass Metro will cut service and jobs. If it does pass they will be able to keep that sevice and jobs.

My thoughts? Well, first of all, Metro has not been able to manage their budget since they were created. We've raised taxes before and they've raised rates and still they can't keep a balanced budget. Any privately owned business that was run this way would have gone under by now or else adapted to changes and pulled through. A private company would not have had tax revenue to support them either. They would have relied on the money they made from selling tickets. Metro can't even stay in the black with outrageous ticket prices and tax revenut. I say Metro has had their chance, let's give a private company a chance. And if we're going to give Metro another chance, let's first take away ALL their tax revenue.

Secondly, I am fed up with government agencies spending our tax dollars to fund campaigns to pass tax hikes. It happens far too often for my liking. This is just another example of that, Metro is using your tax dollars to promote Prop. A.

I will definitely not be voting for Prop. A and if you live in St. Louis County I hope you don't either.

And as far as giving Metro a second chance, I'll take the spot. I'd have them cut down to the bare essentials pretty quick. No more empty busses driving around.
